Best Kept Secret

By Dr. Mark

I have heard so many times from new patients that they wished they had known we existed before. They are excited that our office provides not only a variety of Chiropractic techniques, but offer other holistic health care services that Diane and Kara provide.  So help us reveal the best kept secret to the population in and around Rochester, even beyond. Please, let people know there are excellent, qualified, alternative practitioners in Rochester ready to assist you.  Each of us provide a unique and different service to enhance your road to better health. Whether you struggle with back problems, weight issues, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or other health concerns, our qualified staff can help.  Remember that I continue to learn new and exciting techniques to improve the outcomes of some of the difficult cases.  I have written about the Koren Technique in previous newsletters. It offers a non-force treatment for those who 'hate' to have their neck "cracked". I use it almost exclusively on babies and very arthritic necks, with great success.  Remember I also do acupuncture.  This can be an alternative or addition to your health needs.  If you are interested, please mention acupuncture to me and we will discuss its many benefits to you. Speaking of asking, many patients ask about extremities and are amazed to discover I work on them too!  I work on many feet, knees, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel type pains, TMJ's and chronic ear infections.  Hey, if there is a joint, it can be worked on!!!  Just ask!  Plus viral infections, headaches, chronic ear infections and fatigue are just a few of the conditions you might not realize I treat.

With regards to food for health, I have listened for many years to the frustration of patients who had been told by someone not to eat this or that, but were never told what they could substitute, or what they should eat. This is exactly what Diane helps you with. She has a bachelors degree is Holistic Nutrition, which means she will provide you with a more "whole body" or "whole food" approach than the dietitians in the hospitals.  Diane will come into your home and discuss the foods you have in your pantry and give you healthy suggestions on replacing unhealthy items. She can teach you how to cook quick, healthy meals through her whole foods cooking classes or by individual appointment.  And with the convenience of having lots of healthy choices right in our local supermarkets, shopping is a breeze.  So let Diane guide you in making those healthier choices and show you how to prepare them.  The best part...her recipes are quick, easy, and they don't have to cost a lot of money! Diane is also a certified Colon Hydrotherapist and administers colon cleansing out of her home office in Rochester.  Colonics will improve your health, and can be used to speed up the healthy changes you are trying to make.  Call Diane today to discover how to regain the integrity of your intestinal health! Also, see the article in this Newsletter for more information.

Value of Colon Hydrotherapy Verified by Medical Professionals

By, Morton Walker, DPM

From the signal stage of history surrounding ancient Egypt, practices of colon hydrotherapy in their most basic form – enemas or clysters – have provided people with internal cleansings adjunctive to their personal external hygiene. But in the modern era it fell to J. H. Kellogg, MD, of Battle Creek, Michigan, famous for his invention of corn flakes and various techniques of good hygiene, to popularize colon hydrotherapy. This happened from Dr. Kellogg’s publication of his article in the Journal of the American Medical Association praising the procedure’s efficacy for saving a dysfunctional large bowel.   That descriptive article was the impetus for advancement of a highly beneficial therapeutic method which has since flourished and found medical recognition among enlightened health professionals in Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and North America. Enthusiastic expressions of approval for colon hydrotherapy are undeniable medical endorsements for this significant complementary treatment which removes metabolic waste from the large bowel without applying toxic agents of any kind.

Board Certified Gastrointestinal Surgeon Dr. Leonard Smith Endorses Colon Hydrotherapy

“I am very well acquainted with the colon’s functions, and my true belief is that colon hydrotherapy is the perfect cleansing medium for preparing the patient for colonoscopy”.

“Moreover, seriously ill patients tend to be chronically constipated which results in generalized toxemia. It turns out that colon hydrotherapy is the gentlest and most effective treatment for a constipation problem. My recommendation for cancer patients is that they should undergo frequent colon hydrotherapy procedures to make sure the colon’s toxic burden is being kept at a minimum while their bodies are trying to heal,” affirms Dr. Smith.

“I also believe that normally healthy people will find it valuable to take colon hydrotherapy every couple of months in order to experience how well one feels when the colon is truly empty. It’s a fact that most people fail to fully evacuate the colon, something they don’t realize” Dr. Smith says.

Giving Colon Hydrotherapy is Standard Procedure for Sharda Sharma, MD

Located in Millburn, New Jersey as a primary care physician for nearly 26 years, Sharda Sharma, M.D., dispenses medical care of a multi-disciplinary nature to her patients. Dr. Sharma employs colon hydrotherapy, chelation therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, Reiki manipulative therapy, and much more. She treats the body as a whole (holistically).

Dr. Michael Gerber Uses Colon Hydrotherapy Routinely

“I’ve had a colon hydrotherapy device in my office for 25 years,” states Michael Gerber, MD, of Reno, Nevada. The basic concepts of the science have not changed much in the last 25 years; however, the colon hydrotherapy equipment has improved immensely.

Conditions for Which Colon Hydrotherapy is Effective

Maintaining a rheumatology practice for the past 24 years in Long Branch, New Jersey, Arthur E. Brawer, MD, is an enthusiastic proponent of colon hydrotherapy for a variety of health problems. “Colon hydrotherapy eliminates from the bowel the accumulated waste material which may get absorbed. If this absorption takes place, it overwhelms the other purification organs such as the liver, the kidneys, the skin, and the lungs. The toxin deposition which becomes lodged throughout the body’s tissues and cells becomes capable of triggering a variety of illnesses,” says rheumatologist Dr. Arthur E. Brawer. “There’s lots of them.” Some disease indications for colon hydrotherapy are:

Allergies, Arthritis, Asthma, Acne, Attention Deficit Disorder, Memory Lapses, Hypertension, Body Odor, Brittle Hair, Brittle Nails Chronic Fatigue, Cold Hands & Feet, Colitis, Spastic Colon, Constipation, Fibromyalgia, Headaches, Irritable Bowel, Mouth Sores, Multiple Sclerosis, Nausea, Peripheral Neuropathies, Peptic Ulcer, Seizures, Muscle Pain, Joint Aches, Skin Rashes, Toxic Exposure

A Gastroenterologist Prescribes Colon Hydrotherapy

Board certified as a gastroenterologist since 1972, Robert Charm, MD, of Walnut Creek, California, a clinical professor of medicine.

“I prescribe colon hydrotherapy by calling upon a superbly trained practitioner. She is certified by I-ACT. Also, I’m very impressed by the sophisticated technology as illustrated by the colon hydrotherapy equipment.”

If you have questions for Diane you can call her at Waters of Life Colon Care, LLC at 332-8980, or e-mail her at diane@think-wellness.com.  Diane is also certified by I-ACT.

Are You Too Acidic?

by, Kara Hayes

Do your shoulder muscles ever feel tense?  Perhaps you are plagued with rheumatic pains or stiff joints.  Are you frequently tired, or often catch a cold or other illness?  Maybe you experience hot flashes, PMS, or some other form of estrogen imbalance.  Do you experience ulcers, frequent herpes outbreaks, acne or a sensitive stomach?  Do you find that your chiropractic adjustments don’t “hold” well?  What you probably don’t realize is that these afflictions, as well as many others, are often related to an overly acidic internal environment.  The cells of your body are constantly working to create and maintain balance inside.  When the body is in balance, disease and illness are unlikely to occur.

As I continue to study Iridology I find there a many markings, discolorations, and lesions in the iris indicating acidity within the body.  Acidity is created by the foods we eat, stress, and regular cellular metabolism.  So, it is normal to experience acid production.  Acidity and alkalinity is measured on the pH scale.   pH is a measurement of the force in which negative ions (alkaline forming) and positive ions (acid forming) push against one another.  In general, a urine and saliva test result of 6.4 is optimal; however, these are not very stable measuring devices, unless tests are taken at regular intervals throughout the day.  The best way to evaluate how acidic you are is to watch your intake of food and observe the way you feel.

Often an acidic environment (and an iris identifying excess acidity), causes an excess build up of catarrh or mucus.  When the acid becomes more than the body can handle, meaning acid is not being eliminated faster than it is being created, mucus develops to transport the excess acid by way of the bronchial tubes, throat, nose, and sinus cavities.  If the body continues to be dominated by acid, inflammation and neural insufficiency result.  Acid usually marks the onset of degenerative disease.  Tissue irritation occurs first and cell destruction follows with an inability for new cells to form due to the presence of the acid.

Although diet is a primary way to address acidity, the channels of elimination cannot be ignored.  Proper elimination of waste and toxins is paramount in maintaining health, reducing acidity, and preventing degenerative disease.  The skin, colon, lungs, kidneys, bladder, and lymphatic system are all involved in waste elimination.  Dry skin brushing and exercise are great ways to get things moving.  As many of you know, one of my favorites is the mini trampoline!

In speaking of diet, a strict diet of veggies, fruits, and nuts will lead to dechlorination of the blood.  A lack of natural chlorine in the blood results in a sluggish liver and glandular swelling.  Therefore, a good balance of foods, generally 80% alkaline forming to 20% acid forming, is important.  Natural chlorine (what we put in our water is not good) levels are balanced with natural sodium (this is not table salt!) levels.  Good sources of natural chlorine include:  goat’s milk, fish, coconut, beets, carrots, and watercress.  Good sources of natural sodium include:  celery, strawberries, and okra.  Both of these natural substances play an important role in alkalinizing the body.

Common acid forming foods include: (20% daily intake from these types of foods):  meats, legumes, eggs, cheese, fish, barley, coffee, corn, rye, oatmeal, nuts, brown rice, peas, alcohol.

Common alkaline forming foods include:  (80% daily intake from these types of foods):  fruits, most vegetables, quinoa, olive oil, almonds, coconut, sprouts.

There are many afflictions that are caused by an overly acidic body and poor balance, which eventually lead to chronic, degenerative disease.  If you think your diet or lifestyle is making your body more acidic than it should be, please call or email Kara to discuss your personal concerns and determine what’s right for you.  Remember acidity is the first step, and can often be reversed by changing some of your habits.  Don’t waste another day feeling sick when you don’t have to!  Your body wants to be on the healing path!  Contact Kara today to discuss acidity and alkalinity.  Kara:  603.312.8036 or Kara@think-wellness.com

Recipes from Kara

For those of you with juicers at home here are a couple of recipes that promote alkalinity and help to rid the body of the many troublesome symptoms of too much acid production.

The best part…you can start feeling better in just a couple of glasses!

Alkaline Special  -  Carrot, Cabbage, Celery Juice            Carrot, Beet, Celery, Parsley

  2 Carrots                                                        3 Carrots

1 (3 inch) wedge of Red or Green Cabbage                    1 Beet (you can include the beet top greens too)

4 Stalks of Celery                                              3 Stalks of Celery

                                                                    2 Handfuls of Parsley

Many of my clients have heard me speak of “the potato peeling broth”.  This broth is high in potassium.  Potassium is a mineral which is often dubbed “the great alkalizer”.  Not only is it great at eliminating acid, it nourishes the muscles (including the heart).  It keeps muscles strong and healthy by promoting their natural contraction and relaxation process.  Potassium is also important to the blood, skin, kidneys, and nerves.

Here is your recipe from Drs. Bernard Jensen and Ellen Tart-Jensen.

Potato Peeling Broth

2 cups carrot tops                                              1 yellow onion (chopped ½ inch thick)

2 cups celery tops                                              1 clove garlic, minced

3 cups celery stalks                                             2 quarts of distilled water

2 cups potato peelings (about ¼ to ½ inch thick)

Finely chop or grate carrot tops, celery tops, and celery stalks.  Bring water to a boil.  Add vegetables and reduce heat to simmer.  Simmer for 30 minutes.  Strain and add one teaspoon flaxseed oil and one teaspoon olive oil.  Discard solids and drink broth only.

WELCOME!

The birth of Kara’s baby, Savannah, a pleasant and welcome change to the Hayes family, and to  our office.   Kara made the decision not to return to the office receptionist position.  She is enjoying the growth of her family, concentrating on improving the health and well being of the clients she works with, and will begin the nursing program at Stratham’s New Hampshire Community Technical College in September.   Diane‘s “Waters of Life Colon Care” (offering colon hydrotherapy and digestive wellness) practice has been keeping her busy and we are pleased to be able to offer this service as part of Crosser Chiropractic and Natural Health Center.  Although I came in temporarily to help out in the office while Kara was out, these changes have allowed me the opportunity to continue my stay here and assist with the further growth and development of the practice! Will You Treat Me Again?

Of course, I will take you back as a patient.  I hear too often from patients that I have not treated in months or years, the question, "Can I come back?" or "Will you treat me again?"  I can only assume from these statements that because you may have ended treatment on your own, that I will be upset with you and not want to treat you anymore.  But, that is definitely not the case.  I feel we should all be in charge of our own health, and whatever decisions you had made regarding your care here previously, is what you needed to do for yourself at that time.  I will always welcome you back.  I feel it is important for you to receive care and not put it off due to fear of not being welcomed.
